"The Cherry River
Festival is an age-old tradition cherished by the community of
Richwood. Wrather it be marching through main street, the
parades or spending unforgettable nights on rides with friends,
the Cherry River Festival has given me so much and any
opportunity to represent it is an opportunity I will always jump
at, especially when it is in conjunction with the Cherry River
Navy. As a rising senior at Richwood High
School, I keep my schedule full of athletic, leadership, and
academic activities. In my junior year I held the titles of
Nicholas County Career and Technical Center SkillsUSA secretary,
RHS Class of 2027 President, RHS Student Council Vice-President
and the West Virginia State Student Council President. I also
play volleyball, basketball and softball for Richwood where I am
captain of all three teams. I play softball at the travel level
for Diamond Dream 16u based in Buckhannon. I attend Bethel
United Methodist Church in Camden on Gauley and am a member of
the West Virginia IJMC Conference Council on Youth Ministries. I
have a passion for poetry, and this past year won the title of
2026 WV Runner-Up at the Poetry-Out-Loud State Finals (poetry
recitation contest). I also have a love for public speaking that
I display through pageantry and SkillsUSA where in the summer of
2025 I represented NCCTC by presenting our American Red Cross
blood drive community service projects in Atlanta and winning
the National Model of Excellence Award for our county technical
center. I am the captain of the Lumberjack Express Flag Corp.
and am the RHS National Honor Society Vice-President. I also
have my Amateur Radio Technician License and am a Certified
Nursing Assistant. In the future, I plan to attend West Virginia
University to major in pre-medicine in hopes of becoming a
neo-natal surgeon. Underlying in all my activities and
achievements is e desire to represent a school and a town that
means so much to me - Richwood. The people of Richwood have
always been so generous to me and all our youth. The Cherry
River Navy is a group that helps give Richwood its homey and
giving environment. While its original purpose is one of old -
to construct a roadway to connect Richwood and its fine lumber
industry to the rest of the state, in recent years the Cherry
River Navy can be known as an esteemed board of Admirals who are
community role models and trailblazers. I first learned about
the rich history the Cherry River Navy has in our community from
my forever mentor Mr. Wally Howerton when I was a pre-teen and
became captivated with the story as it was told to me multiple
times through my adolescent years. Two dear friends of mine -
Miss Savannah Moose and Miss Adrianna Miller have reigned as the
Cherry River Navy Sweetheart in recent years and I always looked
up to them before, during, and after their reigns. The CRN
Sweethearts truly put the name "sweetheart" into action and are
elite and completely compassionate young ladies whom I would be
honored to join the ranks of. |
